Required Duties 1. Assist editors and writers with idea generation, fact-checking, reporting, and writing articles. 2. Contribute to the daily maintenance of Somerville Scout blog with research, fact-checking, and suggestions for posts, links, and updates. 3. Assist the publisher and other interns with non-editorial tasks. Though the journalism intern will primarily work in an editorial capacity, the intern should expect -- and embrace -- the prospect of performing non-editorial tasks at a moment's notice. Optional Duties 1. Ensure the Somerville Scout blog contains new, quality content every day. 2. Conduct research through phone calls, document requests, libraries, face-to-face interviews, etc.. 3. Perform tasks as agreed upon by editor and intern. (Intern is encouraged to offer ideas that may benefit both.) Qualifications • A portfolio of at least three bylined clips from a college or community publication. • Two letters of reference. • Experience with blogging software (we use WordPress). • Phone skills and note-taking. You will be expected to conduct research and interviews over the phone, and you are required to record concise and accurate notes of your conversations.
